The EEA prohibits discrimination on nine distinct grounds, including disability. The definition also provides protection for people with a history of a disability. For example, a person who has a history of psychiatric illness but who no longer suffers from that illness, may still be subject to discrimination because of their past medical history.
Once a person has been brought within the definition of a disability, then the legislation prohibits direct or indirect discrimination or harassment on the basis of their disability.
