Last minute tips - the night before the exam

What should you do on the night before an exam?

  • make sure that you know the date, time and location of the exam. Check that you know what subject or part of course is being examined.
  • look over previous years’ exam papers in this subject to get an idea of structure of the paper and the type of questions usually asked.
  • figure out how many question you will have to answer and how much time you have for each question.
  • read over summary sheets for the subject and test your ability to recall them. Check that you can expand on the material contained in them.
  • revisit the key points associated with topics.
  • pack your bag with all necessary items (pens, papers, pencil, coloured pens, ruler, calculator etc) and include some form of identification and your exam card if required.
  • pick out clothes that are comfortable and loose fitting. Layer your clothing so you can stay warm or cool down as required.
  • try to resist studying on the night before but don't go out for a drink either. Do something relaxing and keep focused.
  • set your alarm early leaving plenty of time to reach your destination. If you cannot sleep do not worry. Never take sleeping tablets or medication which might cause drowsiness as it might affect your ability to function on the day of the exam.
