Presentation of essays

Departments may have specific presentation requirements and it is up to you to check these and adhere to them. The following is simply a set of general guidelines to be used in the absence of specific guidelines from your department.

• always supply the title of your work either as a heading or on a cover page
• write or type on one side of the page only
• make sure your name and id number are on every page
• number your pages
• double space your work
• if handwriting, it must be legible and neat. If at all possible, type your work as this makes it easier to make corrections etc.
• follow binding instructions carefully if provided. Normally essays do not require binding
• if typed, used only one font throughout and use only one size for main text
• use a simple, legible font for your final draft
• either centre or align headings but be consistent
