This section considers ways to prepare yourself for Higher Education and highlights points that you should consider before applying to University through your National Application System (i.e. CAO (Ireland) and UCAS (UK)).
The transition from Second Level to Third level is a significant one and you should not underestimate it. This is especially true if you have been out of formal education for some time. Take the time to consider and discuss the implications with advisors, friends and family as people who know you will have a good idea of how you might cope in this environment. At the end of the day, only you can make that decision but it is one that should be shared as you work through it.
The following sections provide a good idea of what to expect from third level education and of what is expected from you. Do not let its content deter you but use it instead to educate yourself fully so that your decision to apply to University is an informed one.
